Two-unit project, Newton, MA

Design Challenge:

On a difficult triangle shaped corner lot, design a market savvy two-unit townhouse.

Solution:

If ever a creative solution needed to be pulled from the preverbal hat this is it. The zoning envelope was very tight, further complicated by the geometry of the lot. Not allowing these constraints to manifest into a complex and expensive framing system was key to developing a viable scheme.

One of the strengths of the design solution is that each units' primary entry faces their respective street, not at all visible from each other, thereby creating a single-family appearance for each unit.

The façades, while contextural, are playful with triangular geometries, echoing their roots found in the site below.
